Apple has announced a new operating system for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. There are some new features and advancements which of course one would expect to happen with Apple. There is a lot of information about what these features are so I will not be talking about these until I actually 4.0 on my iPhone.
There are some things that are important to internet marketer. The iPhone continues to sell in huge numbers. The iPhone has gained 60 percent of the smart phone market. The iPod Touch is also a big seller and the new iPad has had over 400,000 sales in just over a week since it has been out. The people buying these devices are getting them so that they can go out onto the Internet from wherever they are.
The thing to know is the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad DO NOT support flash and it appears that Apple will not be supporting flash at all. That means there will be no apps allowed that will play flash video. Anything done in flash just looks broken and that means the flash videos that you are putting on your squeeze and sales pages.
The solution is pretty simple – start doing your compressed videos in HTML5 or H.264. This is what major news and on line media companies are scrambling to catch up on and do. HTML5 will replace proprietary plugin players like flash. Plus HTML5 (the language) will be replacing the HTML we all use for everything.
This is not just an “Apple thing” – Microsoft supports HTML5 videos in Internet Explorer 9 and later versions. Google and You Tube support it. All “modern” browsers support HTML5 video so it just make sense to stop doing things in flash and start doing things in HTML5.
