Laptop Failure

One of my laptops – a Dell 620 Latitude failed a few days ago. Apparently it had a hard drive head crash which destroyed part of Windows XP. This is normally not a problem – get a replacement hard drive and reload Windows. Actually things were going fairly well with the replacement Hard Drive when the machine froze. It got so the bios would not come up – that is not good news either the processor was failing or the motherboard. I was able to find refurbished replacement at Micro Center at a good price.

Internet Marketing – Is there a way to tell what information is a scam or is useful??

I am sure you may have seen ads on TV, in newspapers, on your computer and in your email about Internet Marketing. It is the hot topic these days. Certainly a lot of the stuff especially in TV ads are rip offs and not in the least helpful other than relieving you of excess money.

One of the people that I read and follow is Skip McGrath – Skip has a free newsletter that always has useful information about Internet Marketing, Selling on eBay and a lot more. Skip and his wife Karen great people who give really good advice.

What I learned from Skip’s Feb 2010 newsletter is that there is a place that offers evaluations and reviews about the people selling seminars, books, eBooks, and various Internet marketing services and products. This is a place where you can look up information about the various people and “systems” out there and perhaps will be very useful in helping you choose if you want to become involved in a system or purchase a product.

The site is called IM report card . On this site you can look up products, services, people, business opportunities and so on and begin to learn the truth about the various offers.

In fact since I just recommend Skip here is his review on IM Report Card to give you an example of what this site has available. You might find as I have that Skip’s material is excellent and helpful.

In contrast here is the report on StoresOnline.com These are the people that send you a flyer in the mail inviting you and a guest to a local hotel for a free lunch or dinner. The give you some free prize and or software. Their flyer always looks good and has some big name companies logos. This is an example of something you probably will not want to be involved in.

How about a full camper that can be towed with a motorcycle?

Another interesting thing at the boat show was a camper line that is very small and light. The manufacturer is Little Guy, and at the the show they had a camper that could be towed by a motorcycle.

These are called Tear Drop campers and are very light and low. Even a very small car could tow most of the models. These have an outside kitchen in the back and this seems like a good place to put an outside kitchen. One cannot stand up in this type of camper so the back hatch is about the only place to put a kitchen.

RV and Boat Show Lexington

I was able to go to the RV and Boat show in Lexington last night. I do not have a great interest in boats, however it was interesting to see some of the latest innovations in RVs. Several of the RVs actually had lofts and a staircase to get to the loft. I would guess the lofts are a place for children – it is really amazing to see how much can be put in very small spaces.

An odd thing to me that was present on several RVs was a complete kitchen located outside the RV. Here is a photo of one that had a Microwave, Refrigerator, Stove top, cabinets, Sink and workspace. Of course this takes up space inside the RV – on this one they put in a bunk on top of where the kitchen is open to the outside and built into the wall.

USPS and UPS have raised their rates

Hope that everyone had a nice holiday. This first thing I want to say is thank you to all of the people who purchased a windmill and or a weathervane. Your businesses is greatly appreciated.

The windmills and weathervanes were my best selling products this year and so as the new year starts I will be doing what I can to increase sales of these products.

I have some new products that I intend to add to the on line mix which will be showing up soon both here and on the sales sites.

The new year starts with notification that both UPS and USPS have increased their shipping rates. I charge a fixed shipping rate on the windmills and weathervanes and attempt to break even on shipping costs. There will be an increase in shipping, there just is not a way to avoid that with the shipping costs going up yet again. I do not know yet how much this increase will be. I will attempt to keep this increase to a minimum however I have to break even over all on the shipping costs.

The good news is it looks like there will be no price increase on the windmills and weathervanes.

I have gotten eCrater to work and just now figured out how to get Bonanzle to work. Got a Bonanzle “booth” and have an item up. I even got Bonanzle to show my eBay feedback – that is way Kool!! My Bonanzle store is here

I have begun listing the weathervanes and the windmills on eCrater. eCrater is a great site that lets me use Google Checkout or Pay Pal. Listing on this site if free and there are no seller fees. The site lets you post items and photos and has a simple check out and shopping cart. Here are the mini Windmills – all together on one page.

Have you ever wanted a real windmill??

The garden windmills are a nice addition to your garden or yard. The Made in the USA ones I carry should last for a number of years. Have you even wanted a real windmill? While traveling to Nebraska last month I found a place that sells real windmills. They have new 21, 27, 33 and 40 foot towers and rebuilt mills with 6, 8 and 10 foot wheels. One of these in you yard should get your neighbors attention. Actually in Western Nebraska I saw a number of windmills on ranches. They are still being used to pump water for cattle.
